Why this project matters
Why this project matters
Choosing a therapist is a deeply personal decision, and this practice offers two genuinely different paths to it — guided matching for someone who doesn't know where to start, and self-directed browsing for someone who does — rather than forcing one flow on every visitor.
Who this is for
Who they are
Thrive Downtown is a counselling and therapy practice based in Vancouver.
What they do
They offer individual therapy, couples counselling, EMDR, addiction support, psychedelic integration and specialized care for neurodivergent and LGBTQIA+ clients.
Who they serve
Adults seeking trauma-informed therapeutic support, in-person in downtown Vancouver or online via Zoom.
What the live site required
Not a wishlist from a kickoff call — what the delivered site visibly had to solve. Every requirement here is paired with the evidence that makes it true today.
Two distinct paths to choosing a therapist
UX"We Match You to a Therapist" (guided) and "Choose Your Own Therapist" (self-directed browsing) both exist as separate homepage options.
Specialization clarity across a wide range of therapy types
ContentDistinct services are named individually — EMDR, addiction support, psychedelic integration, neurodivergence-specific care — rather than grouped under generic "counselling."
Both in-person and remote session options presented clearly
ContentSessions are offered in-person (downtown Vancouver) or online via Zoom, both stated directly.
Why this stack, not just what stack
Every technology on this project was a specific answer to a specific problem — never a default.
- 01
WordPress
Chosen so the practice can manage a growing team directory and specialization content as therapists join or their focus areas change.
- 02
WooCommerce
Chosen to support session-related commerce (such as low-cost session options) alongside the core counselling content.
Trade-off — WooCommerce supports session-related purchases, but the guided-matching flow itself is a content and contact path, not a booking engine — it identifies a fit, then hands off to a human rather than booking a specific therapist and time slot directly.
- 03
Elementor
Chosen for the homepage layout presenting both matching paths and the practice's therapeutic framework clearly.
What the site can actually do
Guided therapist matching
"We Match You to a Therapist" as a guided path.
Self-directed browsing
"Choose Your Own Therapist" for visitors who prefer to browse profiles directly.
Specialization pages
EMDR, addiction, psychedelic integration and neurodivergence-specific content.
Low-cost options
A dedicated section for accessible/reduced-fee counselling.
What the finished build shows
Specific, verifiable patterns in how this project is put together — not a feature list, but how the pieces fit.
Low-cost sessions given their own dedicated section
Reduced-fee counselling is presented as its own section rather than a footnote or FAQ answer — accessibility pricing gets the same structural treatment as the core service pages.
Remote sessions presented as an equal option, not a fallback
In-person sessions in downtown Vancouver and Zoom-based remote sessions are stated together as parallel options, rather than remote being framed as a substitute for when in-person isn't available.
The live experience
Every screen, captured directly from the live site — desktop, tablet and mobile.

How this project's engineering applies to your business
Offering both a guided "help me choose" path and a self-directed browsing path applies to any service where the buying decision is personal and visitors have different comfort levels with self-selection — healthcare, coaching, or professional matching services.
If you remember three things
Two matching paths
Guided and self-directed therapist selection both supported, not just one default flow.
Named specializations
Specific therapy types given their own content rather than one generic services page.
Accessible options surfaced
Low-cost counselling given real homepage visibility, not buried in a FAQ.
